Today was the Pathfinder Rocket Launch! Lots of fun.
April 26
We had one of our Pathfinders over today to work on her Fire Building & Camp Cookery honor. We had to boil, fry, simmer, cook in foil, bake bread on a stick, and cook something in a reflector oven. So, in that order, we made eggs, potatoes, chili beans, corn on a knob, campfire biscuits, and individual pizzas.
This honor is a required one for the older group known as Voyager. But since it was at our house, and doesn't have any particular prerequisites, we let Hannah & Sarah tag along, too.
March 29
Today was a blast! We went on an historic train from Hood River down to Parkdale, only 10 miles from the base of Mt Hood. They did an old time western show about whiskey bootleggers trying to smuggle whiskey on the train. We had a fantastic lunch at Solera Brewery - a really nice wild rice veggie burger they make right there. I even found a letterbox not far from where the train stops. On the way home, we had dinner with my brother and his wife, then almost got locked inside a cemetery in Oregon City, going after another letterbox too close to dusk.
The only howl rooms we could find in Crescent City, CA only had one bed. So we packed our camping cots for the girls. Our room is quite small, so Sarah's cot is right next to the door. At the end of Hannah's cot, we have about 6" to walk past on the way to the restroom. Oh well. We're looking forward to a glorious Sabbath on the coast tomorrow! Perhaps some letterboxing, maybe some hunting for agates. Definitely the picnic lunch we packed. Can't wait!
February 19
I started this jigsaw puzzle last Sabbath. I've worked on it here and there, and finally finished it this evening, with Charlie's help. He usually doesn't help with them.
February 15
The theme of the Friendship Banquet was "50s Diner". The social committee did a great job putting it together. They served vegeburgers, fries, and milkshakes. Sarah and her best friend were the only ones in poodle skirts, although lots of other people did dress up.
November 29
The kids got invited to a sleepover at the last minute. So what do Charlie and I do? Stay home with his parents and play Acquire. Lol
I've been stitching, sewing, crocheting, , etc., for days! Hannah & Sarah were invited to Sarah's best friend's birthday party, and it was a costume party. Sarah and her friend both love a line of dolls called Lalaloopsy, so that's what Sarah decided to be. Hannah wanted to be a sock monkey.
When your daughter has a costume party to go to, and you don't want to buy a costume, or pay the crazy prices they want for sewing patterns these days, you improvise.
A shirt that fits well to use as a pattern. Internet instructions. Packing paper. And a sharpie. Go!
Had such a fun day at Waterworks Park in Redding! Charlie's dad's cousin Velda lives in Redding, so she brought her little "adopted" (by way of friendship, nothing legal) granddaughter (age 7) and joined us for the day. It wasn't overly crowded and we rode and rode and rode those water slides. What a surprise to run into a friend from Medford there with her family. Afterwards, Velda took us to dine at an amazing Chinese restaurant at the airport. Heading home now. Definitely a perfect last day before school starts tomorrow! Homeschool, that is!
(Two pictures because Sarah closed her eyes in one and Hannah wasn't smiling in the other because the sun was too bright. )
Date night! Dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant, followed by mini golf and air hockey. Charlie beat me at mini golf, both rounds. But I beat him at air hockey, both games!
